KL Rahul once again failed to score anything in the third T20I of the five-match series against England. While this is worrying for the player and team, he went to record a unique and unwanted record on Tuesday after his constant failure.
On Tuesday KL: Rahul registered yet another duck in the third T20I and could stay only for four balls against England. In Ahmedabad, earlier in the second T20I he had also scored a 6-ball 0 and failed to trouble the opposition at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. However, in due process of scoring his consecutive duck, KL Rahul equaled an unwanted record for the most number of ducks in a T20I series/tournament by an Indian. Ashish Nehra got out for two ducks at the ICC T20 World Cup while Ambati Rayudu was dismissed for two ducks in a T20I series against South Africa in 2015.
KL Rahul who is still considered as one of the best T20I batsmen of the Indian cricket team was beaten for pace by Mark Wood in the second over. Rahul was visibly disappointed as he walked back to the pavilion. Once the cricket was resumed after a brief break due to the pandemic, KL Rahul was seen struggling in T20Is. After scoring a half-century and a 30-plus score in Australia, Rahul has managed scores of 0, 1, 0, 0 in his next four T20is. KL Rahul was given the responsibility of opening the innings for India as mentioned by the Indian skipper ahead of the series, along with Rohit Sharma while Shikhar Dhawan would be rested. It happened for the first time on Tuesday in the series as Ishan Kishan, Rahul’s previous opening partner from the last T20I was dropped to No. 3.
Ishan Kishan, who walked in at No. 3, managed just 5 runs. Rohit Sharma got 15 and the move did not work for the Indians. Virat Kohli, however, saved the face loss by scoring an unbeaten 77 but eventually, India lost the match by 10 wickets.
