It was a blistering inning from the 17-year-old Shafali Verma who helped India seal a win in the final T20I against South African with absolute dominance. It did not just give India a consolation win by nine wickets, it also took Verma to the top of the ICC T20I ratings.
South Africa Women collapsed for just 112 for the loss of seven wickets in the third and final T20I match of the ongoing series against India. The visitors had nothing to lose as they had already registered a series win by the end of the second match at the same venue. But this win by India was important to boost the morale of the hosts. Chasing the mere total was never going to be a tough task for Indians. However, the 17-year-old Shafali Verma made the task looked easy and smooth.
Shafali Verma, was once again on fire in Lucknow as she smashed 30-ball 60 with seven fours and five sixes. Her scores of 23 in 22 balls and 47 in 31 balls in this series against South Africa already took her to the No. 1 position in the T20I batter's rankings for women. The updated list was released by the International Cricket Board where She went past Beth Mooney to earn the most points and get the top spot.
Verma, however, had topped the chart earlier during the T20 World Cup 202 after scoring 163 in five innings at an astonishing strike rate of 158.25. The young Indian sensation back then had also gone past Mooney. Currently, Shafali Verma with 750 points is followed by Mooney, Sophie Devine, meg Lanning, and Alyssa Healey in the list.
Smriti Mandhana who provided the essential support to Verma today is currently ranked in the seventh position. Mandhana scored an unbeaten 28-ball 48 in the match today and stitched a 96-run partnership with Verma to take India home.
