Delhi Capitals new captain Rishabh Pant received praises from Shreyas Iyer and Suresh Raina for his debut journey as captain. In IPL 2021, Pant will be leading the Capitals for the upcoming IPL season in absence of their regular captain Shreyas Iyer.
Rishabh Pant replaced the injured Shreyas Iyer as the captain of Delhi Capitals for the Indian Premier League 2021. Iyer who led Delhi Capitals for the last three seasons after replacing Gautam Gambhir mid-way in IPL 2018 had to leave this year’s IPL following a shoulder injury he had sustained in the India-England series. Amid a number of experiences faces, the Capitals chose to give chance to a relatively younger member. Speaking on the same, Iyer said, “When I sustained the shoulder injury, and Delhi Capitals needed a leader for this edition of the IPL, I had no doubt that Rishabh (Pant) would be the best man for the job.” He continued, “He has all my good wishes to make amazing things happen with our absolutely incredible team. I’m going to miss the team tremendously, and will be cheering for them throughout.”
Raina, a veteran IPL player from Chennai Super Kings also took to his social media account to wish the 23-year-old for his new role. "Heartiest congratulations to @RishabhPant17 on being named the captain of @DelhiCapitals for this season. I am sure he will be a talismanic leader and will be donning this new cap with pride," Raina tweeted.
Rishabh Pant, on getting such an opportunity felt humbled and said it was a dream for him to lead Delhi Capitals one day. "Delhi is where I grew up, and where my IPL journey began six years ago. To lead this team one day is a dream I've always harbored. And today, as that dream comes true, I feel humbled. I am truly grateful, especially to our team owners, who considered me capable enough for this role. With an amazing coaching staff and a plethora of accomplished seniors around me, I can't wait to give my absolute best for Delhi Capitals."
