The 19th match of IPL saw Mumbai Indians moving to the fourth spot in the table. They beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 40 runs; thanks to their new recruit Alzarri Joseph.
Winning the toss Sunrisers opted to bowl first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Sandeep Sharma had a good start with the ball. Later Mohammad Nai came to add more pressure. Nabi got the dangerous Rohit Shama for 11 runs in the fourth over. Post this MI kept losing wickets at regular intervals. By 13th over Mumbai were 65 for the loss of five wickets. All the top order MI batsmen were gone. Hardik Pandya joined Kieron Pollard. Hardik went for a huge six before getting caught Vijay Shakar off Rashid Khan with his score of 14. Rashid dropped a catch of Pollard when the batter was just on eight. This was the turning point of the match as Pollard hit four sixes and two boundaries and finished with unbeaten 46. MI finally set a score of 136 for SRH.
SRH have the most prolific opening duo of this IPL. But Rohit Sharma’s masterstroke of bringing leg spinner Rahul Chahar. Chahar got Bairstow off the first ball the batter faced. The next over saw the debutant Alzarri Joseph announcing himself in the league by getting rid of David Warner off his first delivery. It was a perfect start for the WI pacer who finally ended with six wickets for 12 runs. Thus he broke Sohail Tanvir’s 12 years old record of best bowling figure in IPL. The untested middle order of SRH couldn’t cope up with the MI bowling attack consisted of Bumrah, Behrendorff, Joseph, and Chahar. Only Deepak Hooda could score 20 runs while as many as three players were out for a duck. Joseph got two wickets in his first two overs and then returned at the death to take two wickets each in his third and fourth over to finish with the MoM performance.
