The 49th IPL match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals saw rain interfering and eventually turning out to be a five-over match. Bangalore even in this five over match lost miserably and was officially out of the 12th season of Indian Premier League. Although Rajasthan won the match but there is no prominent future as such.
Virat Kohli yet again lost the toss and was asked to bat first by Rajasthan. Bangalore started off pretty well with the opening du taking 23 off the first six balls. Even the second over saw Kohli welcoming Shreyas Gopal with a boundary. But Shreyas had the last laugh. He took the wickets of Kohli (25) and Villiers (10) in two consecutive balls. When Marcus Stoinis faced him on the hat-trick ball, the stadium was cheering for Gopal. But somehow there was a hope of Stoinis defending that ball. But Stoinis handed over the first even IPL hattrick of this season to Shreyas Gopal. This was also his first IPL hattrick. It was also only the third time that any Indian registered hattrick in Twenty 20 version of the game. Earlier Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh achieved the feat. Whatever momentum RCB got, it was gone. They lost four more wickets in next three overs and finally ended the innings at 62 for the loss of seven wickets.
It was almost a cakewalk for the Royals. Almost two-thirds of the required run was scored by the openers. Sanju Samson scored a 28 off 13 and hit two fours and three maximums. Livingstone, on the other hand, scored a seven-ball 11. Chahal scalped the wicket of Samson with and 22 runs were still required off 10 balls. But the rain started once again and with no further delay, Rajasthan Royals were declared to be the winner.
