Royal Challengers Bangalore claimed a thriller win by one run against Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, in Bangalore.

The Beginning
Having won the toss, Chennai chose to field first. Asked to bat first, Bangalore didn’t get a flying start. Virat Kohli fell very cheaply for mere 9 while middle order batsmen AB de Villiers scored 25 off 19 and Akshdeep Nath scored 24 off 20. However, a quickfire knock of Parthiv Patel kept their scoreboard going. They reached the 100-run mark in the 13th over. Meanwhile, Parthiv Patel’s quickfire knock also came to an end in the 16th over after scoring 53 off 37. However, they were hoping for a big score with in-form batsmen Marcus Stoinis and Moeen Ali on the crease. But the bowlers had some other plan as they conceded only 28 runs in the final three overs by dismissing Pawan Negi and Moeen Ali. Bangalore ended up scoring 161 runs on board after 20 overs.

The Chase
While chasing, Chennai got the big blow as their opener Shane Watson got out in the very first over after hitting a boundary off Dale Steyn. Steyn struck again in the final ball and dismissed Suresh Raina; who got out for a golden duck. Another opener Faf du Plessis took 15 balls to reach 5 before getting dismissed in the 4th over; which left Chennai struggling at 17-3 after 4 overs. However, that was not the end, as Kedar Jadhav lost his wicket for 9 in the penultimate ball of the final power play over. Chennai was reduced to 28-4 when captain MS Dhoni came to his side’s rescue. He tried to resurrect the innings with Ambati Rayudu.

Both added 55 runs before Rayudu’s dismissal for run-a-ball 29. Even, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo also failed to support Dhoni in their run-chase. On the other hand, MS Dhoni single-handedly chased down the total and took the team to an equation of 26 needed off final over. The first ball went for a boundary while the next two were sixes. Two came from the fourth one while fifth went for another six. They needed just 2 in the final ball when the slower delivery from Umesh Yadav was missed by Dhoni and a quick brilliance of Parthiv Patel ran Shardul Thakur out and Bangalore won the game by 1 run.
