The Delhi Capitals climbed to the top IPL 2019 rankings. They defeated the Rajasthan Royals by five wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday night.
Delhi won the toss and asked the Royals to ball first. RR got the first blow when Sanju Samson was gone for a golden duck in the second over of the innings. Few overs later Rahane got a life when Ishant Sharma dropped his catch in the fifth over when Rahane was at 16. But then there was looking back and Ajinkya Rahane batted all the way. He scored an unbeaten 105 from 63 balls that were studded with eleven fours and three sixes. He got a partner in Steve Smith who scored a confident half-century off 32 deliveries.
Their second-wicket stand of 130 runs was the reason why Rajasthan could make up even after the initial loss. The Royals did lose a bit of momentum in the final stage and could score only 41 runs while losing four wickets. But Rahane stayed till the end and his heroics helped his team to set the final score of 191.
It was Shikhar Dhawan’s batting approach that helped Delhi Capitals turning around to set the mood from the beginning of the chase. On Monday night too, Dhawan began aggressively and scored 54 off 27 balls. Dhawan smashed eight boundaries and two sixes to score 44 of his 54 runs through the leg-side. Although Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer (4) got out just after the Powerplay, Prthivi Shaw was there to lead and Pant joined in.
The wicketkeeper-batsman contributed 60 runs in a third-wicket partnership of 84 with Prithvi Shaw. Pant smashed his half-century in just 25 balls and finished unbeaten on 78 off 36 deliveries. Even though Delhi lost two wickets in the 17th and 18th over, thanks to Rishabh Pant that Delhi could completely chased the run successfully.
