Mumbai Indians finished as the topper of IPL group stage after a comfortable win against Kolkata Knight Riders in their final league match. KKR needed a win to progress but they failed miserably.

The Beginning
Batting first KKR lost Shubman Gill soon and were at 49/1. Chris Lynn scored 41 off 29 deliveries before going back to the pavilion and KKR were 56/2. Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik were present at the crease. It was expected from one of them to play a sensible knock considering the importance of the match. But Dinesh Karthik left pretty soon and other followed him too. KKR kept losing wickets at regular intervals with Uthappa watching from the other end. Uthappa stayed till last over but only to make things worse. He scored a 47-ball 40 at a strike rate of 85.11. His innings had 24 dot balls. Nitish Rana added a 13-ball 26 at the end but it wasn’t enough and KKR ended with just 133/7. Mumbai Bowlers were brilliant. Almost everyone contributed with Malinga taking three wickets and Hardik Pandya taking two.

The Chase
Even chasing 134 needs a solid start. Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma ensured that for their team. De Kock as always performed well and scored 30 off 23 deliveries. Rohit Sharma led the team to win from the front. He scored 55 runs off 48 balls and took Mumbai home safely. It was a flawless captain’s knock and was composed of eight fours. Once de Kock was out Suryakumar Yadav joined Rohit in the 7th over. He held the momentum and scored an unbeaten 46 runs off 27 balls. His partnership of 88 runs with skipper Rohit Sharma made sure that Mumbai could win the last group match of IPL 2019.
