On Friday when Royal Challengers Bangalore were finally about to win a match with sheer dominance, Andre Russell crushed their dreams and won it single-handedly for Kolkata Knight Riders.
Winning the toss Kolkata Knight Riders opted to field first. Finally, Virat Kohli came back to form. With Parthiv Patel ( 25) he prepared the base right. Parthiv was gone soon and another strong partnership required for RCB to put up a competitive target. After a long wait, it was the moment for Bangalore fans to rejoice. Two old friends and pinch hitters of the team were back in form. Virat scored 84 off 49 and AB de Villiers smashed 63 off 32. Their partnership of 108 runs helped Bangalore to set a massive score of 205/3 at the end of 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the only bowler from Kolkata camp who could create some impact. Thanks to him that the partnership between Kohli and ABDV was broken. He also tried to slow down the run rate of the Bangalore team.
Chasing this huge score was never going to be easy for Kolkata. Sunil Narine (10) went too early but Chris Lynn (43) and Robin Uthappa (33) did it right. Kolkata Knight Rider got the beginning right. But after the partnership of Kynn and Uthappa was broken by Pawan Negi, Kolkata started struggling. Nitish Rana (37) and the captain, Dinesh Karthik (19) tried to chase down but the situation was getting tougher for them. At a certain point, after Dinesh Karthik was out, KKR required 53 runs off 18 balls. Andre Russell was present at the crease with Shubman Gill. Even with the hitman there, the target was looking beyond the reach. Russell scored one run off first four balls. Then it was a one-man show. He faced nine more balls to add 47 more runs. Suddenly the match that was out of KKR’s court, was won by them with five balls to spare. Russell again proved that with him on the ground everything is possible.
