When there’s a constant debate on his place in the final Indian squad traveling for World Cup 2019, KL Rahul is using the IPL platform well for his message to the selectors. The 22nd match of IPL saw KL Rahul masterminding Kings XI Punjab chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad and finally winning the match.
Punjab won the match and opted to bowl first. Probably they knew that batting would not be easy on the track. SRH lost Bairstow at the very initial stage and David Warner took charge of the innings. He scored 70 runs off 42 balls. Although it was a slow innings, but it was the need of the hour. He hardly got any support from others; except a 26 off 27 from Vijay Shankar. So he decided to bat through the entire innings and set a competitive target. Thanks to him that even after SRH kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, they could make 150 runs.
While chasing, Punjab lost an import wicket very quickly. Chris Gayle was soon out in the fourth over. It was important to build the innings at that point of time after the initial blow. Warner’s innings indicated that the pitch was difficult for batters. KL Rahul adapted to the difficult conditions and scored an unbeaten 71 off 53 balls to secure the win for his team. He was well supported by Mayank Agarwal who scored a timely 55 off 43 deliveries. Mayank was out in the 18th over followed by a couple of more wickets, Rahul never lost his control. He finished the chase successfully and emerged as a star.
Twist In Climax
IPL is famous for the dramatic end. Even the 22nd match wasn’t an exception. When Punjab was confident of winning the match with two set batsmen Mayank and Rahul on the crease, they lost two wickets of Mayank and David Miller in the 18th over; credit goes to the young Sandeep Sharma. The next over they lost another wicket Mandeep Singh to Siddarth Kaul. But finally, KL Rahul managed to win the match with a ball to spare.
