The Beginning
Winning the toss Mahendra Singh Dhoni opted to bat first. Faf du Plessis was playing his first IPL match of the season. He took the charge and went on to build small partnerships with (26) and then Suresh Raina (17) He scored 54 off 38 balls to give Chennai the strong base they required. But the Punjab skipper, Ravichandran Ashwin took the wickets of Faf and Raina in two consecutive balls. CSK were suddenly in trouble and there were still seven overs left. The captain appeared. Dhoni scored 37 off 23 balls and finally set a good score of 160 for Punjab to chase. On the other hand, Ashwin’s spell was the only impactful part for Punjab during CSK innings. He took all the three wickets of Chennai and led from the front. Thanks to him that Punjab could restrict Chennai to that decent score of 160.

The Chase
Punjab lost two important wickets as soon they began their innings. An experienced Harbhajan Singh took the wickets of Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal in the second over of Punjab innings. Given a chance to settle down, these two batters, especially Gayle could have been really destructive. But Punjab still has another opener who wasn’t ready to give up. KL Rahul kept scoring runs and built a partnership of 110 runs with Sarfaraz Khan. Rahul scored 55 off 47 balls and Sarfaraz added 67 off 59 balls. Punjab finally needed 46 runs off 18 balls with two set batsmen on the ground. It was never an impossible task. But then Scott Kuggeleijn came back to bowl his last two overs with a bang. He broke that partnership and scalped both wickets. His bowling figure from the match read 4-0-37-2. Among those 37 runs, he conceded only ten runs in the 18th and 20th over. Deepak Chahar bowled the 19th over. He conceded 13 runs and took the wicket of David Miller. But with Sarfaraz on the crease, the last over was crucial and Scott delivered it magnificently.
