Velocity, led by Mithali Raj registered a win over Trailblazers by three wickets in the second game of Women’s T20 Challenge 2019.
Winning the toss Velocity decided to field first. Trailblazers were hoping for a solid start from there in form captain Smriti Mandhana. But Smriti was removed by Shikha Pandey after scoring just 10 runs in the third over of the match. Suzie Bates was luckily still there and scored 26 off 22 with two fours and one maximum. Along with Suzie Harleen Deol took the charge for the Trailblazers. These two took the team to 34 within the powerplay. Deol scored 43 off 40 balls and stayed till the 18th over. Apart from Deol, the middle and lower order of Smriti’s team didn’t produce any result. Ekta Bisht was exceptional and ended with a figure of 4-0-13-2. Amelia Kerr also took two major wickets of Deol and Deepti Sharma. Pandey and Sushree Pradhan scalped one wicket each. The Trailblazers could score only 112 for the loss of six wickets at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing a mere target of 113 wasn’t going to be tough for any team in a Twenty20 match. Although Velocity didn’t get a great start and lost the wicket of Hayley Matthews was soon in the fifth over, the other opener, 15-year-old kid Shefali Verma took the charge from the beginning. She smashed 34 off 31 and got a partner in Danielle Wyatt. Wyatt scored 46 off 35 balls and was there till the scoreboard showing 111/3 in the 16.5 over. But the ball saw one run out and the next over saw Deepti Sharma taking three wickets of Mithali Raj, Shikha Pandey, and Amelia Kerr. It was a dramatic moment and at a point, it looked like the Trailblazers would do wonder. But the magic took time to happen and finally the Velocity won the match by three wickets. Deepti Sharma was outstanding and finished with 4-0-14-4.
