Delhi Capitals lost the second qualifier against Chennai Superkings and Chennai will be facing Mumbai Indian in the IPL 2019 final match on 12th May. This will be the fourth time that these two will have a final face-off with Mumbai having an advantage of winning two encounters in the past.
Batting first Delhi Capitals were in trouble from the beginning. Prithvi Shaw was gone in the third over. Since then Delhi kept losing wickets till Rishabh Pant took charge in the second half of innings. Post the wickets of Shikhar Dhawan (18), Colin Munro (27) Pant joined the captain, Shreyas Iyer with the scoreboard reading 57/3. He scored 38 off 25 runs and was the main force that took Delhi to 147/9. He stayed there till the 19th over to save the team from the collapse. This form and maturity of Pant once again raised the question of his exclusion from the Indian team going to the World Cup 2019 in May. Chennai bowlers were all set to the mark and proved their worth with each spell. Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, and Deepak Chahar took two wickets each. Imran Tahir took one more wicket and stepped closer to the Purple Cap for IPL 2019.
Chasing mere 148 wasn’t going to be tough for Chennai Superkings. The openers did their bit from the very beginning and put everything on the right track. Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson both scored 50 off 39 and 32 balls respectively. First, it was Faf du Plessis who was taking all the charge of hitting and scoring big shots. Later Watson opens up in the 12th over with a handful of boundaries before getting out in the next over. They both were gone with 109 runs for the loss of two wickets and the job was almost done for Chennai. It was just a matter of time and the rest batters like Suresh Raina (11), Ambati Rayudu (20) completed the chase. Delhi bowlers had not many runs to defend and as expected they couldn’t deliver anything great.
