Chennai Super Kings claimed an easy win by 80 runs against Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, May 1 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Batting first Chennai Super Kings struggled initially due to the slowness of the pitch. Shane Watson was dismissed for a nine-ball duck. Then Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina started building the innings and carried the score to 27-1 in the first six overs. Their partnership of 83 runs was crucial for the team after that first blow. Faf du Plessis scored 39 off 41balls but was dismissed in the fourteenth over. Raina, on the other hand, scored 59 off 37 balls and followed his partner in the next over. Then MS Dhoni and Ravindra added quick runs to add flourish at the end. The duo added 43 runs in 3.4 overs and took the team closer to 150-mark. After Jadeja’s dismissal, Dhoni started hitting in usual mode and took CSK to a competitive score of 179 after 20 overs.
While chasing a target of 180, Delhi required a flying start which the openers failed to provide. In-form opener Prithvi Shaw got out for mere 4. However, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer tried to steady the ship and added 48 runs in 5.3 overs. Most of the runs came from the captain, Iyer as Dhawan managed to score only 19 off 13 balls before his dismissal. After his dismissal, Delhi showed a dismal batting show where each of the eight batsmen fell for a single digit score. Imran Tahir did the major damage as he picked up 4 wickets while Ravindra Jadeja took 3 and bowled them out for 99 in 16.2 overs. With this win, Chennai moved up in the point table and placed at the top with 18 points while Delhi placed at second with 16 points.
