The 16th match of India Premier League showed why Delhi pitch has been a talking point of this season. Sunrisers Hyderabad won a low scoring match against Delhi Capitals. But pitch emerges as the winner.
Winning the toss Sunrisers Hyderabad opted to bowl first. The pitch at Firoz Shah Kotla has been troubling the batsmen constantly since the beginning of this IPL. This time it wasn’t any different. The captain of Delhi, Shreyas Iyer only could provide a valuable 43 followed by the second highest coming from a tail-ender Axar Patel scoring 23. SRH bowlers restricted DC at 129 for the loss of eight wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was Capitals’ stand-in captain for this match. He finally got some wickets after three failed attempts in the last three matches. Bhuvi took major wickets of Prithvi Shaw and Chris Morris. Mohammad Nabi was once again outstanding and produced a brilliant spell to scalp two wickets. Siddarth Kaul also impressed by taking two wickets.
As expected, the pitched didn’t turn into any better even for Hyderabad innings. Except for Jonny Bairstow, nobody could have any impact. Bairstow smashed a 28-ball 48 consisted of nine fours and one six. The second highest scorer of SRH was Mohammad Nabi who scored a mere 17. This shows how useful and powerful Bairstow innings was. He is using each available opportunity and making his presence felt in each game. Bairstow is day by day becoming an important key member for Hyderabad team. Once Bairstow was gone, SRH started to lose wickets at regular intervals. Since it was a low scoring match, the dismissals didn’t cost much to Hyderabad. Everyone contributed few runs with Nabi finally finishing the match with a four and a six in the 19th over.
