The KXIP and Rajasthan Royals Match on May 25 at Jaipur was much more than just a cricket match. It was a tight exciting game of cricket that gave birth to a controversy. Kings XI Punjab won the match, but the gentleman’s game doesn’t seem to be happy with them.
The show began with Rajasthan Royal winning the toss and electing to field first. Punjab lost their first wicket in KL Rahul and got the initial blow at 4/1. Then it was all about Chris Gayle with valuable contributions from the entire middle order. Chris Gayle scored 79 off 47 balls. He hit 10 fours and two boundaries during his innings and crossed 4000 IPL runs. Mayank Agarwal scored 22 off 24 and the young Sarfaraz Khan impressed all. When Gayle got out, Punjab was at 144 for three. Sarfarz didn’t let go of the momentum. He scored an unbeaten 46 off 29 and set a target of 184/4 for Rajasthan Royals.
Heading out to bat, Rajasthan Royals started strong. All thanks to the skipper Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Jos Buttler (69). Buttler was exceptional with his batting and was all set to take the game away from the Punjab camp. But a controversial move by the opponent skipper Ravichandran Ashwin changed the situation dramatically. Buttler was Mankaded by Ashwin. It is not termed illegal by the rulebook but it is considered to be against the spirit of the game. Buttler was shocked and visibly disappointed.
According to the points table, currently, Delhi Capitals are on top, followed by Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders with two points each. Due to the net run rate DC is currently leading the list. In the fifth position is Sunrisers Hyderabad, and then Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, and Mumbai Indians – all with no points.
